Foundation

Foundation, 6 x 6 inches, Oil Pastel on Paper 

I finished this painting after letting it dry overnight so that I could layer more color in. It is more geometric than earlier paintings in this series and I am very happy with the final result.The oil pastel medium creates intense colors that are highly reflective. In other words, they look dull unless they are properly lit. I like bright colors and so this works well for me. I am also finding that I can use them like oil paint and apply areas of thick impasto color with a palette knife which truly makes this feel like painting. I have no ideas where the images are coming from or where I am going until the piece is finished. I am sure that is what is making this such an exciting process.
